For some, it means stress; others it could spell routine life; then for some others, it would be obligations. The reflection can be endless. How many of us would see work as FUN.

Yes, you are right, I said FUN!!! Would life be great when we are being paid for something that we enjoy doing? Work can be fun. It all depends on your perspective of work. I see successful work as fun. Yes I believe that fun can also be spelt HARD work! You can have fun and be sweating through it!

A story was told of a woman who was a chef to a hospice in the US. Every day she got up and rushed to the hospice to cook for the many that were there. One day a volunteer came in. In fact this volunteer was sent there to help in the hospice. It did not look fun to the volunteer to serve the old folks that were there. What caught his eye was this chef.

The chef was serving lots of food with a great smile and there was lots of energy emanating out of her. Those around her were infected with great enthusiasm. After the session, this volunteer came to her and asked, "How is your day?" The chef replied, "Never been better!" "In fact, when I go to sleep every night, I just can't wait to get up." Curious, the volunteer ventured and asked why. The reply he got impacted him. The chef told him that she is so excited to get up every morning so that she can come to the hospice and see these folks filled with hot food and a smile on their faces after meals.

Friends, when our work is seen from the perspective of the ones that are going to be benefitted, it is work that is worth. Work that is worth is fun. Imagine seeing the smile on the faces of those whom you will be impacting. Never mind if yours is the front of the delivery system. What is important is knowing that the end result is going to make someone's day. That to me is fun!

So think for a moment what you are doing. Whether your work is that of a student, clerk, driver, salesperson, teacher or a manager - there is someone who consequently at the end of your work that will be touched. What do you think???

Keys to Successful Meetings

Wow it's been so long since I came online. I was preparing for a meeting the other day and somehow I got to thinking that meetings can be a waste of time. Many people are involved in lots of meaningless meetings that does not yeild much. All that takes place is lots of projections (dreams) and lots of talk.

I released that if the meetings are going to be meaningful, then I must chair them in a manner that will help my staff become successful. The whole idea is what must I do to make them succeed in what they are wanting to accomplish.

Thus the approach is to listen to what they have to say, then help empower them with what they need and then make a commitment for success. Now this is only the BEGINING.

Having met, I must now track their plan and continue to oversee their strategies. My next few meetings are to call them to account for their plans and to help remove obstacles and to empower them further with ideas, creative solutions and resources.

As I ponder over the last 2 years, I realised that without knowing it, I have been chairing my meetings in such measure and this is why I am seeing great results. What do you think?

My Trip to Nias

Wow! Wah! Aiyoh! These were the emotions that ran through my entire emotional bank upon arrival at an Orphanage in Nias. Nias is an island that was impacted by both the Tsunami and earthquack. We flew from Medan to this beautiful island.

Upon arrival, we were met by many of the kids from the orphanage. There were friendly smiles and warm hellos. After getting our bags, we were whisked into a van and travelled for a good 30mins to the Orphanage. The sea coastline looked great and inviting. Imagine such a greeting from both nature and wonderful people. Makes leaving this island difficult huh?!

At last we arrived at the foot of a hill. We had to climb steps (I mean real huge steps and mucho mucho steps) to get to the entrance of the orphanage. I thot to myself that if I keep going up and down those steps, I could get myself to be extremely fit!

I actually spent 3 days at the orphanage. Seeing the joy, smile and laughter of these kids really warms my heart. Here I am supposely to bring them joy and laughter and instead, it was these kids that left a tremendous deposit into my emotional bank account.

Coming home, I hope that the message that I left behind in exchange for the emotional deposit would be a message that they CAN be a great success in life. Infact, they CAN become history-makers in the days to come.

So do you want to go with me to Nias in my next trip?

Attitudes For Success

Attitudes are important. They determine the heights that you can soar or they determine the pits you will stay in. They are so powerful that success or failure is decided before you actually embark on any venture.

I am convinced that I need to continue to cultivate a set of positive attitudes. At this point, I feel that Tenacity or perserverance is a great attitude to have. I read one of the blogger talk about loyalty and why people are not loyal. Maybe they have no staying power to see something achieved. Maybe they are quitters?? Of course there are many factors why people jump from organisation to organisation. But I am assuming that the factors in the organisation are excellent and conducive.

Any comments?
